Ogi Eyewear donates eyeglass frames to the Kirby Puckett Eye Mobile

Ogi Eyewear lends its support to the Kirby Puckett Eye Mobile initiative by donating eyeglass frames and helping improve the life of the local community

A leader in the fashion optical market, Ogi Eyewear has once again proved that it takes its commitment to providing quality eye care seriously by supporting a new philanthropic effort, the Kirby Puckett Eye Mobile. Owned, operated and staffed by Phillips Eye Institute, part of Allina Health, the mobile is like an ophthalmologist’s office on wheels with two fully equipped exam rooms.

The Kirby Puckett Eye Mobile will provide follow-up eye care for children as well as free vision screening for children and adults around the state.

The Eye Mobile was introduced to the Twin Cities region on 11th July with a ribbon-cutting ceremony held at the Minneapolis Convention Centre, an event Ogi Eyewear was proud to witness. Named after Kirby Puckett, who played centre field for the Minnesota Twins for 12 years before being diagnosed with glaucoma and was an advocate for preventive eye care and eye health awareness, it is the first and only mobile eye clinic in the region. The mobile will provide follow-up eye care for children referred through the Phillips Eye Institute’s Early Youth Eyecare (E.Y.E.) Programme as well as free vision screening for children and adults around the state.

Present on the occasion were Kirby Puckett Jr. and Catherine Puckett, Kirby’s children. Visibly moved during the inauguration, Catherine said, “All of the good things that he has left for everybody, to be able to take care of kids who need to get their eyes checked. Just the simplest thing is going to help so many people. We are so proud to be here. He would be proud of this. It just feels special and honoured to be here.”

Ogi Eyewear pledged to support community initiatives such as this in the future too.
