CIOF 2014, the 27th China International Optics Fair, that was held from 3rd to 5th September at the China International Exhibition Centre, attracted some of the biggest players from the optical industry. The three-day event, organised by China Optometric & Optical Association and China Light Industrial Corporation for Foreign Economic & Technical Cooperation, was held in an exhibition area of over 55,000 square metres. The event saw active participation from 237 international exhibitors and 567 Chinese exhibitors, with 275 global brands and 915 Chinese brands on display.

China is recognised as the “World Factory” globally. The country has attracted all the major international eyewear brands to tap this massive market. Currently, the incidence rate of myopia in China is 33 per cent (which approximates 400 million people and the rate is still increasing). Therefore, coupled with its strong economic growth in recent years, China has become the largest and most influential optical market in the world. CIOF 2014 thus proved to be an important event for all exhibitors as it provided them with a huge platform to network and build business relations in the biggest optical products procurement market.

‘Brand promotion’ and ‘Advocation of high technologies deployment’, this year’s themes, were well-accepted by both exhibitors and buyers alike. The range of exhibits at the event included products such as frames, lenses & accessories, machinery & materials and ophthalmology equipment. The event had a special zone displaying trendy Chinese and international famous eyewear brands and innovative products and a procurement zone to facilitate business discussions between buyers and exhibitors and to place orders.

CIOF 2014 also hosted interesting seminars where authoritative speakers spoke at length on the topics of Chinese economy prospect, optical industry trends & technology analysis. Legal advisory services were provided to all  exhibitors and buyers. A lawyer was stationed at the event to give advice on queries and disputes regarding intellectual property rights.

Some of the big names present at the event were Luxottica, De Rigo Group, Lafont Eyewear, Fleye, Lindberg, Lotos, Menrad, Mykita, Rodenstock, Safilo, Ocuco, Borer, etc. Apart from international optical giants, CIOF 2014 hosted participating delegations from all the major eyewear production bases in China. For complete details on the exhibitor list and the range of exhibits, log on to the CIOF website.
