MOU Between Dubai Medical College And Moorfields Eye Hospital Dubai

Dubai Medical College and Moorfields Eye Hospital Dubai (Moorfields) have agreed to collaborate for providing undergraduate students with training in Ophthalmology

A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) has been signed by the founder and Chairman of Dubai Medical College, Haj Saeed Ahmed Lootah and Mr Mariano Gonzalez, Managing Director, Moorfields Eye Hospital Dubai. The MOU signed is for the student training in Ophthalmology in accordance to the curriculum accredited for undergraduate medical education by the General Medical Council, UK.

The terms and conditions of collaboration was signed by Clinical Dean Prof Muscat Baron. The signing ceremony was held at the Chairman’s Office in the college premises at Muhaisnah and was attended by senior faculty members of Dubai Medical College and Dubai Pharmacy College. The training will commence in September 2015 for the final year students pursuing MBBCh degree at Dubai Medical College.

Dubai Medical College for girls established in 1986 by philanthropist Haj Saeed Bin Ahmed Al Lootah, Founder and Chairman of the Conglomerate S.S. Lootah Group, was the first medical college in the UAE, and the only educational institution to win the prestigious Dubai Quality Award. The college was also a winner of the coveted MRM Excellence Award in 2011.

Prof. Mohammed Galal El Din Ahmed said, “At Dubai Medical College we believe in collaboration for learning. Such collaborative ventures will help us enrich the curriculum by integrating specialised fields with the primary health care concept.”

Moorfields Eye Hospital Dubai is the first overseas branch of Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, the oldest and one of the largest centres for ophthalmic treatment, teaching and research in the world. The facility provides day case surgery and outpatient diagnostic and treatment services, for a variety of surgical and non-surgical eye conditions; alongwith also maintains close links with London, to ensure that patients in the GCC receive the best eye care treatment in the world.

Mr Mariano Gonzalez, Managing Director of Moorfields Eye Hospital Dubai, added, “Moorfields’ mission in the Middle East includes providing world class treatment and care for patients but also teaching and research. This agreement with the prestigious Dubai Medical College will help us fulfill our mission and enable us to locally support female ophthalmology students in Dubai with undergraduate training to meet international standards.”
