SILMO 2015: Another Successful Edition Concludes

The international trade fair saw professionals from the eyewear industry converge under one roof to celebrate the best of fashion, innovation, technology and inspiration with 892 exhibitors of which 75 percent were from abroad

SILMO, the international optics and eyewear trade fair in Paris, drew to a close in an undoubtedly positive atmosphere. The 48th edition of SILMO took place on 25-28 September at the Paris Nord Villepinte Exhibition Centre. A key business platform for the profession, the event featured four dedicated exhibition areas presenting the latest fashion trends, technological innovations and progress in the medical field. A total of 34,250 professionals visited this year’s event. The international clientèle continued to be in majority; 57% of visitors came from around the world and 43% were French opticians, who turned out in greater numbers this year. In terms of exhibitors, the event witnessed a participation of 892 members including 75% from other countries. Even the total exhibition area increased to 33,300 square meters, which translates to a rise of 5.3%.

Over the years, the event has successfully emerged as an extremely coordinated symposium, enhanced by a number of technical workshops which are appreciated and well-attended by opticians.

SILMO d’Or

For the 22nd consecutive edition, the jury, chaired by designer and internationally renowned teacher, Emmanuel Gallina assigned the SILMO d’Or awards, celebrating creativity and innovation across multiple categories, plus a Jury’s Special Award.21733824791_fb01ebb87d_o

Known for his elegance and simplicity, Emmanuel Gallina’s work highlights his attention to detail and its constant priority in the form of contours, shapes and functionality. Graduated from E.N.A.D (Limoges) and I.A.V (Orléans), he has deepened his knowledge at Milan’s Politecnico obtaining a diploma of Master in Design & Management. After collaborating for 7 years with Antonio Citterio in Milan on projects for the most celebrated names of international design, Emmanuel currently works for his own agency, straddling between Italy, France and China.

His portfolio of work resonates with simplicity and consists of projects for international brands like Poliform, Rotaliana, Fast, Eno, Clen, Manade, Nodus, Omikron design, Toulemonde Bochart or Covo. From 2010, he has also been working as a consultant for companies helping them with their marketing strategy and design identity as Art Director. Emmanuel also teaches at Milan’s Politecnico, tutors at Domus Academy and Istituto Marangoni of Milan and Lima in Bordeaux.

Emmanuel was indeed delighted to preside over the panel of judges for the 2015 SILMO d’Or Awards and used his discretion to select the best products in each category.
