ICLEP Hosts 51st Edition In Hyderabad

The Indian Contact Lens Education Program (ICLEP) hosted a three day program in Hyderabad at the LV Prasad Eye Institute (LVPEI) in association with Bausch + Lomb. The program has trained over 5000 contact lens professionals so far, raising the standards of contact lens practice throughout India

ICLEP hosted its 51st edition in Hyderabad. The three day program was inaugurated on 3rd July and focused on discussing the latest development in the domain of contact lens care. The  event was attended by 115 delegates from various cities in India and few from outside the country as well. The 51st ICLEP was inaugurated by LVPEI’s Director of Education, Dr Prashant Garg.

The program was spread across three days with various lectures and hands-on sessions. The lecture and workshops were conducted by a dedicated team of faculty from LVPEI along with other national speakers and industry professionals. These included eminent professionals from the optical industry like Yeshwant Saoji from Saoji Vision Care, Nagpur; Prof Monica Chaudhary from Amity Delhi and Nilesh Thite, Director of Educational Programs, International Association of Contact Lens Educators.

The event also consisted of veterans from the industry coming forth and sharing their viewpoint of the current pace of development.

The first day covered topics like basics of contact lenses, fitting of soft contact lenses, disposable lenses and silicone hydrogel lenses, etc. It also included a wet lab session for interested delegates who could practice slit lamp techniques, lens insertion removal and soft contact lenses fitting, etc. The day concluded with sessions wherein the participants got a chance to interact with the speakers and explore subjects related to patient selection, contact lens fitting, clinical examination and fitting toric lenses, in greater detail.

The sessions for the second day were focused on infections and complications amongst contact lens wearers. The last day consisted of sessions about the fitting of paediatric contact lenses, presbyopic contact lenses, use of lenses post corneal surgery cases,  scleral lenses, orthokeratology and reducing drop-outs. Other interesting activities hosted during the three day program included instruction courses on topics like toric soft contact lenses, silicone hydrogels, multifocal contact lenses, etc. followed by a group discussion on the importance of practice management and a certification ceremony to felicitate the participants.
