International Eye Cataract Retina Centre Organises 2-Day Course On 'Achieving The Ultimate Vision'

The course, to be led by Dr Wilfred Tang, aims to equip participants to make better clinical decisions and expand their scope of practice

Dr Wilfred Tang is a therapeutically qualified optometrist with many and varied facets of achievements. At Singapore Polytechnic, he was recognised for his work as a lecturer, clinician, researcher, author, senior academic administrator, industry partner, business developer and primary eye care advocate. For these accomplishments, he became the first recipient of the Visionary Award in 2004 and was honoured with the Outstanding Young Person of the Year award in 2006. Dr Tang was appointed to the first Optometrist and Opticians Board in 2008.

Dr Tang graduated from The University of Melbourne in 1991 and went on to complete his three-year PhD under a scholarship from Queensland University of Technology in 2001. He spent 13 years leading the optometry programs at Singapore Polytechnic with high impact. To enhance his primary healthcare credentials, he completed a Master of Public Health degree from The University of Western Australia in 2012. He is an adjunct research fellow at UWA’s School of Population Health. With the further completion of a post-graduate qualification in ocular therapeutics from The University of New South Wales in 2014, Dr Tang is licensed to treat anterior eye diseases with ophthalmic medications.

‘Achieving the Ultimate Vision’ Course Synopsis

This course aims to deliver relevant and practical knowledge ranging from measuring high refractive errors with auto-refractor, optimum refracting distance, use of pin-holes, how eye diseases reduce vision and when to refer. The two-day course consists of a series of lectures using problem-based learning approach. It emphasises on the fundamental principles underlying the everyday working experience of opticians. Participants will be able to apply the knowledge gained to better make clinical decisions and expand their scope of practice.
