After completing 6 years of Basic and Advanced Surgical Training in Singapore, Dr Au Eong received two additional fellowship training in diseases and surgery of the vitreous and retina in two different countries. He completed his first clinical fellowship at the University of Manchester and Manchester Royal Eye Hospital in Manchester, United Kingdom, from 1998 to 1999 and his second clinical and research fellowship at the Wilmer Eye Institute, Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland, from 1999 to 2000. His current areas of interest include vitreoretina, cataract and comprehensive ophthalmology.

Dr Au Eong Kah Guan is Medical Director and Senior Consultant in Ophthalmology at Singapore International Eye Cataract Retina Centre, Mount Elizabeth Medical Centre. He is also a Visiting Consultant to the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences in Khoo Teck Puat Hospital. He was previously Head and Senior Consultant in the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences at Alexandra Hospital; Head and Senior Consultant of the Eye Clinic at Jurong Medical Centre; Adjunct Associate Professor in the Department of Ophthalmology, Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore; Deputy Director and Head of Research in The Eye Institute, National Healthcare Group; and Deputy Director of the Clinical Research Unit at Tan Tock Seng Hospital.

As founder of a counselling practice, Singapore swimming representative, and proud recipient of Singapore Woman Award in 2012 in spite of her physical disability, Cassandra Chiu is the epitome of courage and resilience
Cassandra became visually impaired at eight years old as a result of a degenerative eye condition called Stargardt’s disease. Despite her disability, she feels strongly that there should not be any barriers to follow one’s dreams. She obtained her Master of Social Science in Professional Counselling from Swinburne University of Technology (Australia). Through The Safe Harbour Counselling Center, she empowers individuals and families to manage a wide range of issues and to maximise their potential. Cassandra recently also founded a consultancy business, The New Perspective, which offers motivational talks, inclusive awareness workshops and barrier-free consultancy specifically for the support of the visually impaired.
She has represented Singapore in swimming competitions such as the Far East and South Pacific Games for the Disabled (the equivalent of the SEA Games for the disabled) and is also a champion bowler.

Dr Colin Tan is a Consultant ophthalmologist and Clinician-Researcher from the Department of Ophthalmology, Tan Tock Seng Hospital. He completed a Fellowship in Medical Retina and Retinal Imaging at the Doheny Eye Institute, University of Southern California, Los Angeles, USA. Dr Tan manages patients with retinal conditions such as age related macular degeneration, retinal vascular diseases, polypoidal choroidal vasculopathy and diabetic retinopathy.

He also treats a variety of eye conditions and performs ocular surgeries such as cataract extraction. Dr Tan has received the National Healthcare Group Clinician Leadership in Research (CLR) and the Researcher Investigator Scientist Enabler (RISE) awards. In addition, he has received numerous academic and scientific awards such as the Clinician Investigator Award and the National Healthcare Group Eye Institute Alcon Research Prize. He has over 50 publications in international journals such as Ophthalmology, Investigative Ophthalmology and Visual Science, American Journal of Ophthalmology, British Journal of Ophthalmology, Eye, and the Journal of Cataract and Refractive Surgery.

Dr Tan has also presented at the annual meetings of the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO), Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO), American Society of Retinal Specialists, and American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (ASCRS). His research interests include vitreoretinal conditions such as age-related macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy; myopia and its complications; cataract surgery, epidemiology, and retinal imaging techniques.

In addition to an active clinical practice and research, Dr. Tan also has a keen interest in education throughout his career. He is a Clinical Lecturer under the National University of Singapore Clinical Faculty Scheme, and has received education awards such as the Dean’s Award for Excellence in Teaching from the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine.
