Unique Design Milano: Independent Eyewear Startup

The Italian company born as a start-up is gaining recognition for its chunky acetate frames.

In the eyewear industry, dominated by licensing giants reliant on luxury brands, few openings exist for independent players. Unique Design Milano (UDM), a standout case, defies norms.

Birthed by Stefano Romanelli and Mattia Colleoni during their academic tenure, UDM sprouted from a “Made in Italy” project by Romanelli. Against odds, it burgeoned into a 700,000-euro enterprise in five years, pandemic setbacks notwithstanding.

Notable names like Arian Moayed, Jessica Chastain, and Zac Posen endorse UDM, solidifying its niche. A departure from the norm, UDM thrives as a testament to innovation and perseverance, carving a distinct path in the eyewear industry.
