Nina Mûr: A Different Way to See

Nina Mûr: A Different Way to See

Nina Mûr brings wood, craftsmanship and personal design together in distinctive eyewear

There is something different about wooden eyewear. The material brings warmth, texture and a sense of individuality that can be difficult to achieve with conventional frame materials. For Spanish independent brand Nina Mûr, wood is not simply a material. It is the starting point for a different way of making eyewear.

Based in Madrid, Nina Mûr designs and produces its frames in its own workshop, combining traditional craftsmanship with technology. Every frame is made individually, with a strong focus on detail, comfort and personalisation. The brand calls this approach Sustainable Uniqueness.

It is a philosophy built around making eyewear responsibly, avoiding mass production and giving the wearer a role in the design process.

Customers can choose the shape, colour and finishing details, creating a frame made specifically for them.

Wood At The Centre

Nina Mûr works with Finnish birch wood to create its own plywood for the frames. The thin layers are flexible, strong and shaped from the beginning to follow the contours of the face.

This gives the frames their particular character. The grain and texture of the wood remain part of the design, while the construction gives the eyewear a clean and modern appearance. The material is also carefully worked to achieve comfort. Nina Mûr shapes the wood into a curve before production continues, helping the finished frame sit naturally on the face. It is a simple idea, but one that changes the way the finished eyewear looks and feels. Rather than hiding the material, Nina Mûr allows it to become part of the identity of the frame.

Made in Madrid

The brand controls its production from its Madrid workshop, where every pair is designed and finished.

This is a detailed process. According to Nina Mûr, producing one pair takes around 40 hours, while approximately 85 per cent of the frame construction is carried out manually.

After the wood is pressed, the frames are cut using

CNC technology, with software developed by the brand to create three-dimensional shapes and maintain precision.

The work does not stop there. Sanding, varnishing, assembly, lens fitting and quality checks are largely carried out by hand. This combination of technology and manual work is central to the brand. CNC cutting provides accuracy, while hand finishing gives each frame its final character.

Nina Mûr describes this approach as Neo Craftsmanship: the precision associated with modern production combined with the flexibility of a smaller workshop.

A Slow Approach

Nina Mûr was born from the principles of slow fashion. Its production is based on controlled quantities, made-to-order manufacturing and an effort to avoid unnecessary stock. The brand’s sustainability policy extends beyond materials. It includes local production, European components, responsible use of resources, recycling and upcycling, as well as reducing waste. Nina Mûr says its made-to-order model helps avoid dead stock and supports a more responsible approach to consumption.

Nina Mûr takes a wider view, looking at how much is produced, where it is made and how the product
reaches the customer.

Where Art Meets Eyewear

Nina Mûr’s design language extends beyond traditional eyewear references. The brand draws inspiration from art, architecture, fashion and design, with early collections influenced by movements including Memphis, Cubism and deconstructivist architecture. That influence can be seen in the way the frames use shape and colour. The designs can be playful, sculptural or understated, but there is always a clear
interest in form. The brand also works with artists, designers and museums, bringing different creative disciplines into its eyewear projects.

This gives Nina Mûr a position somewhere between eyewear and design. Its frames are made to be worn every day, but they also carry the qualities of objects created with an eye for proportion, material and detail.

Nina Mûr is not trying to make wooden eyewear
simply for the sake of being different. It is exploring what happens when natural materials, careful craftsmanship and personal choice are given equal importance.

The result is eyewear made not for everyone, but for someone.
