IVI Resmeet 2021 : In Honour Of Professor Brien Holden – A Salute To the Genius

India Vision Institute is organising Resmeet 2021-This event will see global leaders in vision science research come together to talk and discuss the advancements in eye health research, and the ongoing work contributing to improving the quality of eye care services. The symposium aims to create an informed pool of eye health professionals as well as inspire young minds to engage actively in research.

Dr Gullapalli N Rao
Founder-Chair, LV Prasad Eye Institute

Dr G N Rao is the Founder Chairman of LV Prasad Eye Institute in Hyderabad. Dr Rao has held many international leadership positions and is on the boards of several organizations in the field of eye care and prevention of blindness around the world. His standing in this area is epitomised by his appointment as Secretary-General of the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (1998 – 2004) and then as Chairman, Board of Trustees, President and CEO (2004 – 2008)

Prof Serge Resnikoff
Conjoint Professor
University of New South Wales, Sydney

Professor Serge Resnikoff is an international expert and consultant in global public health, ophthalmology, and eye health. He is a conjoint professor at the University of New South Wales in Sydney and teaches in Paris and London. He is also the Chair of the International Myopia Institute board, the President of Organisation pour la Prévention de la Cécité (OPC), the President of Thea Foundation, the Chair of the Brien Holden Vision Foundation and the immediate past chair of the International Coalition for Trachoma Control. With a PhD from Paris University, an MD from Bordeaux University, and post-graduate degrees in ophthalmology, tropical medicine, air and space medicine, public health, epidemiology, and biostatistics, he has published over 250 refereed articles and book chapters.

Professor Naidoo is Senior Vice President – 2.5 NVG, Inclusive Business, Philanthropy and Social Impact at Essilor, the former CEO of the Brien Holden Vision Institute and former Chairperson of the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness(Africa), Honorary Professor of Optometry at the University of KwaZulu Natal (UKZN), Adjunct Faculty at Salus University in Philadelphia and Senior Visiting Fellow at the University of New South Wales (Australia).

Dr Ravi C Bakaraju

Associate Professor Ravi C Bakaraju is the founder and chairman of nthalmic. 
Previously, Dr Ravi held senior executive roles at the Brien Holden as Head of R&D, where he oversaw all the institute’s translational research projects and innovation activities from 2017 to 2019. Over the years, Dr Ravi has co-authored 40+ peer-reviewed scientific manuscripts in the areas of visual optics, optical modelling techniques, presbyopic contact lenses, peripheral refraction, model eyes and general ophthalmic instrumentation. He has also co-authored about 65+ scientific abstracts. Dr Ravi regularly presents at national and international venues.

Prof Jason J Nichols
Associate Vice President – Research and Professor
School of Optometry, the University of Alabama at Birmingham

Jason J. Nichols is an Associate Vice President for Research in the Office of the Vice President for Research at the University of Alabama at Birmingham and Professor in the School of Optometry. In addition to his administrative duties, he actively conducts ocular surface and contact lens research and trains PhD students and Fellows. He writes and lectures extensively on ocular surface conditions such as dry eye and meibomian gland disease. Dr Nichols is currently Editor of Contact Lens Spectrum and Contact Lenses Today, whose publications reach over 100,000 eyecare practitioners worldwide. He also chairs the Global Specialty Lens Symposium, which is the largest contact lens-specific meeting in North America.

Premnandhini Satgunam received her bachelor’s degree in optometry from the Elite School of Optometry, Sankara Nethralaya BITS, Pilani. She received her MS and PhD in Vision Science from Ohio State University, USA. She worked as a postdoctoral fellow in vision rehabilitation at Schepens Eye Research Institute, Harvard Medical School, Boston, USA.

Shrikant Bharadwaj completed his undergraduate degree in Optometry from the Elite School of Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Chennai and a PhD in Vision Science from the University of California Berkeley School of Optometry, USA. After completing his post-doctoral training in Vision Science at the Indiana University School of Optometry, USA, Dr Bharadwaj returned to the L V Prasad Eye Institute (LVPEI) in Hyderabad as a DBT Ramalingaswami Fellow in 2009. Shrikant then established the Visual Optics research laboratory at LVPEI with the overall agenda of understanding how the optics of the eye influences spatial vision and depth vision.

Dr Ramesh.S.Ve began his career as an optometrist & clinical researcher in 2001 and has academic, clinical and research experience in the field of optometry, vision science and eye care. He is currently an Associate professor and Head of, Department of Optometry, Manipal College of Health Professions, Manipal Academy of Higher Education. He completed his Doctorate (PhD) in 2014 at Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani, India.

Dr Jameel Rizwana Hussaindeen

Dr Jameel Rizwana Hussaindeen is currently serving as a Lecturer at the University of the West Indies. She was the former head of the Binocular vision and Vision Therapy clinic at Sankara Nethralaya, Chennai, India where she is currently serving as an honorary visiting consultant and faculty. Dr Hussaindeen is the first clinical Diplomate from India, in the section of Binocular vision, perception and pediatric Optometry of the American Academy of Optometry (AAO) and is the inaugural president for the AAO-India chapter.

Peek Vision

Dr Priya Morjaria is an Assistant Professor in International Eye Health at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and Head of Global Programmes at Peek Vision. Her research interests have taken her to both Africa and Asia, with her PhD research on school eye health programmes being based in India. She is an optometrist by background who continues to work in a community, hospital and academic setting and has been in the field of public health for over 12 years.
