Save Your Children’s Sight : An IVI – VisionPlus Panel Discussion

India Vision Institute in association with VisionPlus Magazine is organising a panel discussion on ‘Save Your Children’s Sight’.

About the panel discussion

The prevalence of childhood blindness ranged from 0.3% to 1.2% worldwide and from 0.62% to 2.2% in India. Research showed that in developing countries, childhood blindness is 51% avoidable, 27% treatable and 19% preventable. Parental awareness and public policy on what they do in schools play an important role in coping with childhood blindness. This discussion aims to cover the ocular pathologies responsible for childhood blindness, the essential measures to prevent childhood blindness, the role of a pair of spectacles in preventing visual impairment due to Myopia, the impact of present online education system on the ocular health status of children and the role of parents, school teachers and public policy in nurturing the eyesight of children.

Dr Viswanathan

Biography:
Dr Viswanathan is heading Optometry department at Sankara Nethralaya since 2008. He has over two decades of clinical experience. He is also an assistant professor at the Elite School of Optometry involved in teaching undergraduate and post-graduate students since 2002. Dr Viswanathan obtained his Optometry degree from Elite School of Optometry and completed PhD from Anglia Ruskin University, Cambridge, UK in the area of Near work Induced Transient Myopia among myopes and non-myopes in Indian subjects. His current area of interest is Myopia Control and he is the Chief Optometrist at Myopia clinic at Sankara Nethralaya.

Biography:
Dr. Krithica Srinivasan is working as associate professor at department of Optometry, Manipal College of Health Professions, Manipal Academy of Higher Education. She has obtained her BS and MPhil in Optometry from Elite School of Optometry. She has completed her PhD from Manipal Academy of Higher Education in the area of Pattern related visual stress and learning disability. She has a decade of clinical, research and academic experience. She is a recipient of “Foundation for Advancement of International Medical Education and Research (FAIMER)” fellowship and also Australian Endeavour fellowship. Her areas of expertise are Binocular vision, Pediatric optometry, development of vision related tools and curriculum development

 

Dr Siddharth Kesarwani
Director, JNR Children Eye Care & Squint Clinic
Borivali West, Mumbai

Biography:
Dr Siddharth Kesarwani is a graduate from Topiwala National Medical College and BYL Nair Charitable Hospital. He completed his post-graduation in Ophthalmology from the prestigious Bangalore Medical College, securing the coveted University Gold Medal. Following this he completed a long-term fellowship in Pediatric ophthalmology, Strabismus and Neuro-ophthalmology from LV Prasad Eye Institute, Hyderabad. Dr Siddharth was worked as the head of the department at Miriam Hyman Children Eye Care Centre in LV Prasad Eye Institute, Bhubaneswar for several years. Presently, he is the director of JNR children eye care & squint clinic at Borivali, Mumbai. He has published many articles in peer reviewed international journals. He is also an Assistant Editor of Indian Journal of Ophthalmology.
