Solving India’s Cataract Crisis

India Vision Institute in association with VisionPlus Magazine is organizing a panel discussion on ‘Solving India’s Cataract Crisis’ to commemorate ‘Cataract Awareness Month’.

About the panel discussion

Cataract is the second largest cause for vision loss. The global prevalence of vision loss due to cataracts is 100 million, out of these 17 million are blind and 83 million have moderate to severe visual impairment. Genderwise, women (1.7%) have a higher rate of visual impairment and blindness due to cataracts than men (1.4%). In India, Cataract is the cause for bilateral blindness in 50% to 80% population.

The discussion will address ways to combat cataract, bridge the human resource gap and deliberate on the need for capacity building. It will also discuss the barriers involved in making cataract services accessible to all and recommend possible solutions.
