3,000 Urban Poor In Chennai To Benefit From Vision Health Program

India Vision Institute (IVI), with the support of Veedol Corporation Limited, has launched a vision screening initiative for underprivileged communities, including fisherfolk, in Chennai.

The program will benefit over 3,000 people across locations in Chennai. Some 1,700 free spectacles are expected to be provided. At the launch of the program at Nochi Nagar near Marina Beach today in the presence of Warren Kirby, Member of New South Wales Legislative Assembly & Co-Chair of NSW Parliamentary Friends of India, and Irfan Malik, National Associate Chair and President, of New South Wales, Australia-India Business Council, 70 fisherfolk received corrective glasses following IVI’s vision screening.

Mr Kirby lauded the efforts of IVI in providing free vision screenings for underprivileged communities. “I am pleased to be present at the launch of the program that will provide eye care access to people in communities across Chennai. As someone who spent years working as a photographer before entering parliament, I am acutely aware of the importance of good vision. The work IVI is doing is life-changing,” he added.

Vinod Daniel, CEO of India Vision Institute, said “Lack of access, awareness and affordability remain key barriers to eye care for many. This program aims to address these challenges by offering vision screenings, providing free spectacles to those with refractive errors, and referring individuals with conditions such as cataracts for further medical evaluation and treatment.”

“IVI remains committed to strengthening community eye care services across India, and this collaboration with Veedol Corporation highlights the importance of corporate support in addressing preventable vision impairment,” added Mr Daniel.

India Vision Institute is working to eliminate preventable vision impairment and raise awareness about eye health across India. Through innovative programs and partnerships, IVI transforms lives by promoting better eye care for underserved populations. To date, IVI has vision screened over 1.6 million individuals across 24 states in India.
