India Vision Institute, Operation Eyesight Universal partner to screen 40,000 children in Kurnool
India Vision Institute (IVI) and Operation Eyesight Universal (OEU) are partnering to screen 40,000 schoolchildren in 300 government and government-aided schools to improve vision among schoolchildren in the Kurnool district of Andhra Pradesh. The program has reached 17,000 students so far, addressing uncorrected refractive errors and providing free spectacles to those in need.
At an event on Tuesday (January 7) at Indira Gandhi Memorial Municipal Corporation High School in Kurnool, 205 children from those screened earlier and diagnosed with uncorrected refractive errors received spectacles, in the presence of M. Sandhya Reddy, District Program Manager, District Blindness Control Society, Kurnool.
IVI CEO Vinod Daniel said, “The program is enabling children to have a clear vision and do well in school. Without good vision, a child has a limited scope of getting a good education. Children with corrected vision can earn, on average, 55.6 per cent more lifetime income than if they never had their vision corrected.”
“We thank the local authorities, including the education department and the District Blindness Control Society, for their support of the program. The partnership with OEU exemplifies the transformative power of collaboration,” he added.
“We are delighted to join hands with IVI to implement this transformative school eye health project in Kurnool,” said Mr Kashinath Bhoosnurmath, President and CEO of Operation Eyesight Universal. “Through this collaboration, we aim to empower thousands of children by ensuring a clear vision, enabling them to excel in their studies and pursue a bright and promising future. Together, we are making a meaningful difference in their lives and building a healthier, more equitable tomorrow.”
