Hosted by the C L Gupta Eye Institute (CLGEI), Moradabad on 8 December 2013, the workshop was organized in association with CLGEI and Bausch+ Lomb (B+L).
The workshop on the Art and Science of Contact Lens Fitting organized by the India Vision Institute received overwhelming response with the participation of over 120 optometry professionals including practitioners, educators and students from north India.
“With contact lenses having emerged as a popular alternate for vision correction, it becomes important to train and upgrade the professionals dispensing it” said IVI CEO Mr Vinod Daniel. “The strong partnership with C L Gupta Eye Institute is what made this workshop possible especially given the overwhelming interest from the Optometric community,” he added.
The workshop covered a range of topics relating to contact lens fitting techniques, benefits and care-regime. Participants were shown live feed of soft contact lens fitting techniques with the help of high resolution slit lamp video projector. Additionally, role play activities demonstrated interaction between a patient and a practitioner in routine Optometry clinics. The session concluded with an open discussion and quiz.
Mr Nilesh Thite, Director of Educational Programs, International Association of Contact Lens Educators; and Mr Pushpender Singh and Mr Khemraj, Professional Services Executives, Bausch + Lomb conducted the workshop. IVI Senior Program Manager, Mr Abhishek Kalbarga, made a presentation on Contact lens fit assessment. Representing IVI, he also spoke about IVI initiatives towards advancing optometry and eye care in India.
“The workshop was a powerful statement on what professionally managed quality Eye Care Education should be”, observed Dr Ashi Khurana, Vice Chairperson of the C L Gupta Eye Institute about the workshop.
Mr Nilesh Thite, the principal resource person delivering the workshop stated, “the workshop turned out to be a great experience. The attendees were very enthusiastic and hungry to learn”.
