Brand Profile: Victoria’s Fantasy Power-Se-Asia

From laying claim to making the best lingerie in the world to a formidable brand for all things fashionable, Victoria’s Secrets is probably the sexiest brands out there

Think sexy and normally the first brand that comes to mind is Victoria’s Secrets. It’s no secret (pun unintended) that
men and women, both are really big fans
of this brand.

Be it the visual of the winged angelic bodies walking the ramp with lingerie or just the hoarding that was as aesthetic as sensual but never vulgar, Victoria’s Secret’s successful branding is a real case study in how to use ‘sexiness’ and almost literally ‘nothing else’ to create a successful fashion brand.

Famous for its iconic lingerie collections, including Body by Victoria™, Very Sexy™, Dream Angels™, Bombshell™, and Cotton lingerie, the brand also features signature fragrances, body care collections, and its athletic line Victoria Sport.

The brand was originally founded in 1977 by Roy and Gaye Raymond and in 1982, the company's five lingerie stores were sold to Leslie Wexner. Wexner expanded into American shopping malls, growing the company into 350 stores nationally with sales of $1 billion by the early 1990s making Victoria's Secret, the largest lingerie retailer in the United States at that time.

 

From 1995 through 2018, the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show was an essential part of the brand's image featuring an annual runway spectacle of models promoted by the company as fantasy Angels. The 1990s saw further expansion for the organisation throughout shopping malls along with the introduction of the miracle bra, the new brand Body by Victoria, and the development of a line of fragrances and cosmetics. After 2000, Victoria's Secret expanded their stores into Canada and later established retail outlets within international airports and major cities overseas.

 

In 2002 Victoria's Secret announced the launch of PINK, a brand that was aimed to appeal to teenagers. The PINK girl loves having fun and is always on trend, she doesn’t take herself too seriously and dreams big; this is the message at the heart of the collection, which reaches out to teenagers, the trendsetters of tomorrow.

As of May 2020, with over 1,070 stores, Victoria's Secret remained the largest lingerie retailer in the United States.

Victoria’s Secret Eyewear

In 2018 Marcolin Group launched the first eyewear collection created for the Victoria’s Secret brand. Victoria’s Secret Eyewear celebrates femininity through trendy frames with a sexy and sophisticated appeal: eye-catching cat-eye shapes, trendy geometric designs, modern reinterpretations of pilot shapes and oversized models, but also modern and attractive vision styles that compliment contemporary silhouettes.

Iconic decorative elements, such as light and hot pink stripes, as well as the gold star and pink temple tips, represent the common thread between the different collections and recall the young glam and seducing universe of the brand.

Fantasy Angels

Victoria’s Secrets’ association with glamour was a given with its Fantasy Angels. This list had the world’s sexiest women walk the ramp and make men, and even women drool. This list includes the likes of Alessandra Ambrosio, Tyra Banks, Gisele Bündchen, Heidi Klum, Adriana Lima, Gigi Hadid and this list can go on. Adriana Lima was probably the one who was with Victoria's Secrets for the longest time - from 2000 to 2018 and she's probably synonymous with Victoria's secrets now as are the others.
