Gen-Z Fashion Trends

Whether you’re a baby boomer just now learning of the newer generation or a millennial in a constant battle with their younger peers, one thing is for sure — Gen Z is making waves in the world of fashion and there is no way to ignore them

The fashion tastes of Gen-Z and its impact is most evident on TikTok, where Gen Z users (typically born around the late 1990s — if not the early 2000s — through the early 2010s) are taking a stand when it comes to style. Most notably, the “Zoomers” as some like to call them, have cancelled skinny

jeans, to the dismay and flat-out disdain of Millennials and those who had to suffer through wide-leg gauchos and low-rise flares in their own youth.

Other cancellations include having a side part in your hair, the laughing-crying emoji, and rose gold, to name a few.

However, some fashion blasts from the past are back in style again according to Gen Z. This list includes skinny baguette handbags and platform shoes from the early ’90s, biker shorts from the ’80s, crewnecks from the ’60s, and even pearl necklaces from the ’20s.

Here's what's in for the GenZ

BAGUETTE BAGS The term "baguette bag" has also been adopted by Gen Z to refer to a specific style of purse or handbag that is similar in shape to a baguette bread.

These bags typically have a long and narrow silhouette with a short strap that can be carried under the arm, similar to the way a baguette bread is held. It may also be used interchangeably with "baguette purse" or simply "baguette." COASTAL GRANDMOTHER "Coastal grandmother" style is a fashion trend that is characterised by a mix of classic, timeless pieces, and bohemian or eclectic elements, often inspired by coastal living and the relaxed, laid-back lifestyle associated with it. This style is often associated with older women who live near the coast and have developed a unique senseof style that blends classic elegance with casual, beachy elements. Key pieces of the coastal grandmother style may include flowing maxi dresses, comfortable sandals, classic blouses, lightweight scarves, and oversized sunglasses, as well as unique and colourful jewellery and accessories. The overall effect is a look that is both polished and relaxed, and that captures the essence of coastal living

. They may be youngsters, but Gen Z has grabbed the “Coastal Grandmother” aesthetic like it has belonged to them for years. Inspired by more nautical, whimsical, and carefree lifestyle, the “Coastal Grandmother” trend swaps tight pants for loose linen and body-hugging tops for timeless button-ups. NON-SKINNY JEANS

Non-skinny jeans refer to any style of jeans that are not form-fitting or tight-fitting like skinny jeans. These jeans can come in a variety of styles, including straight-leg, bootcut, flared, wide-leg, and cropped.

The fit of non-skinny jeans can vary from a loose, relaxed fit to a more tailored, slim fit, but they all have one thing in common: they are not designed to hug the legs closely as skinny jeans do.

Non-skinny jeans have become increasingly popular with GenZ as fashion trends have shifted away from the tight-fitting styles that dominated the market for a time. They are often chosen for their comfort and versatility and can be dressed up or down depending on the occasion.

Slip Dresses

Slip dresses were originally designed to be worn under other dresses, particularly those made of sheer or delicate fabrics, to provide a smooth and seamless base layer. However, in recent years, slip dresses have become a popular fashion item in their own right, and are often worn as a standalone dress. Modern slip dresses come in a variety of styles, including those with lace detailing, bold prints, and unique textures, and are often worn with jackets or sweaters for a more casual, layered look.

Chunky Layering Necklaces, Clips, Caps, and Headscarves

GenZ loves to layer their necklaces and make them appear chunky.

And as far as headgear goes, be it clips, caps, or headscarves, they want it all!

Oversized Sweatshirts and Biker Shorts

This is something you can't miss when it comes to recognizing a GenZ in a crowd.

The biker shorts could be replaced with non-skinny jeans or something comfortable but the oversized sweatshirt trend seems to have hit them hard.

Platform White Sneakers

White and whiter is how they like it. Maybe a bit of an additional element but in a very subtle way is fine, but the sneakers seem to be almost overall white.

It’s a far cry from the days of colour footwear but then it seems to be moving towards a minimalist approach to colour in footwear.

As far as the footwear designs go, this generation seems to be slightly open to experimenting with them with the designs being chunky, flat, layered, or minimalistic.

Let’s now look at the product that matters most to us - eyewear. So what exactly do the Gen-Zs like to wear on their face?

Retro Flat Top Aviator Glasses

These modern-day aviator eyeglasses are not the same as the ones their parents used to wear – they feature unique contemporary details, colours, and shapes that keep them in the style of conversation. The much-loved aviator silhouette is no longer just a sunglasses staple. Aviator eyeglasses can be worn with prescription lenses or in plain form for both men and women. You can use them as stylish accessories to up your outfits and complement your facial features.

70s Oversized Square Glasses

Square lenses are timeless. This year's silhouette borrows the retro-vintage vibe with oversized proportions and thick frames. With actual square or gently rounded shapes, they'll make you look fashionable without putting too much effort into it, just how the Gen-Zs like it. Just done up some high-waisted denim flares, a t-shirt, a fancy scarf, and a cool leather jacket, and it'll be like the '70's all over again.

Fashion Cat Eye Glasses

Geometric Cat-Eye glasses are a big Gen Z trend this year; they accentuate one’s personality and highlight the shape of the face. For those with a square-shaped look, a geometric cat-eye frame will add angles to the face, which can be very flattering. For a rounded face, curves in the eyewear can help to define it. Cat-eye frames are sexy yet serious and contour the image of a decisive woman who knows what she wants.

Vintage Inspired Round Glasses

Round frames are brought back in trend by Gen Z, and more than that, they are suited for square and rectangular-shaped faces. They can be mixed and matched with various outfits, starting from the business savvy and going to hipster oversized sweaters and hats.

An oversized round frame is perfect for for those who want to be bold. Smaller frames are a bit more elegant, but the Gen-Z seems to always pick funky colours to be sure they make a noticeable entrance. These beauties are bound to draw attention to the face – which is exactly what one needs when trying to get people’s attention.
