India Vision Institute (IVI) organised two workshops on Pediatric Optometry focusing on excellence in eye care for children. The workshops were held at the NSHM Knowledge Campus in Kolkata on 18-19 January; and at the IIT Alumni Industry Interaction Centre in Chennai on 21-22 January 2016. The two-day workshops were organised in association with the Sydney-based Brien Holden Vision Academy.
Dr Daniele P Saltarelli (OD, FAAO, Pediatric Optometry) from the University of Cincinnati, USA, covered a wide range of topics on Pediatric Optometry including pediatric vision testing, amblyopia, strabismus and its types, common accommodative and convergence disorders and their diagnosis, differential diagnosis, treatment options and an introduction to Pediatric contact lens.
“Strengthening the capacity of Indian optometry is a key focus of IVI. I am delighted that a world expert Dr Daniel Salterelli could come to India and share knowledge on correcting and restoring vision at the earliest possible stage so that our children can not only perform better academically, but also have a good start in life” said Mr Vinod Daniel, CEO, IVI on the occasion.
The two workshops were attended by a total of 35 Optometry practitioners, educators and students from a number of institutes in and around both Kolkata and Chennai, including from the NSHM Knowledge Campus, Assam Down Town University, Sarkar Eye Institute, B B Eye Foundation, School of Allied Health Sciences, Shri Prakash Institute of Optometry, University of Hyderabad, Centre for Sight, SRM University and Dr Agarwal’s Eye Hospital among others. In addition, Dr Salterelli delivered an online lecture on 20 January, to over 400 Optometry students and faculties from 12 schools on Pediatric Contact Lens and Common Accommodative & Convergence Disorders.
