Mukta Drishti Foundation – the CSR arm of Mukta Opticians inaugurated it along with a series of other initiatives that will ensure women have access to better health and hygiene facilities.
The optical trade community has always done its bit when it comes to giving back to the community. In fact, vision health in our country has benefited a lot from the good work done by the opticians and brand owners across the country. There have also been examples of eyewear retailers going beyond the duties of just improving vision health – by serving the community in other sectors as well. The most recent addition to this list being Mukta Opticians.
As part of its CSR programme, they have just set up the first sanitary pad bank in Goa. The initiative was inaugurated on the occasion of the nation’s 75th independence day by the brand’s CSR arm – Mukta Drishti Foundation. The sanitary pad bank is part of the many initiatives that the foundation plans to undertake for the emancipation of rural women in Cotigao village in Goa.
Mukta Drishti Foundation aims to develop Cotigao as a model village where women will have access to basic health and hygiene facilities. During the initial survey, many women in Cotigao were found to be severely anemic. Further analysis also revealed various other health issues among the people. The overall health and hygiene standards were extremely poor.
Mukta Drishti Foundation has set up a community healthcare centre in the region with assistance from local NGOs. A local doctor and volunteers from the community have been employed in the centre to serve the people. Facilities that the patients can avail in the region include regular health check ups, free diagnosis and medication. The volunteers are also trained to provide first aid in case of emergencies.
Commenting on the initiative, Mr. Kishore, Owner of Mukta Opticians said, “ I encourage the people in Cotigao to come forward and avail the benefits of these initiatives. We, at Mukta Drishti Foundation, are committed to serving the society and look forward to doing so in every possible way. As part of its holistic approach to develop the village in the years to come,we are also supporting infrastructure development in the schools – facilitating access to education and healthcare right from childhood.”
