The new collection features four frames that are ethno-chic and feature precious details
LA MATTA, the ladies-only line of Area98, pays homage once again to pure, seductive, no-holds-barred femininity, dedicating its collection to two apparently distinct female types. On the one hand there is the rebellious, snarling lassie, anti-conformist and with attitude; for her, an ethno-chic style has been sought out. On the other hand, a refined, ironic, simperingly well turned-out girl is reflected in the precious details shown by some of these frames.
Uniting these two ‘animas’, we find LA MATTA’s key features: the animalier pattern, effected in proactive tones such as red, purple and electric blue, the exclusive acetates with their mother of pearl effects, the two-tone fronts that play on the contrast between material and colour-shade, the sometimes ostentatious details on the sidepieces.
Thus have evolved original, never obvious products such as model LM3153, with a soft interplay of leather twining on the sidepieces to set off small semi-precious stones, or the frames of LM3158, where the metal decor meanders like a plaited ribbon along the sides and top rim, lending a touch of mystery to the wearer’s gaze.
There are strong ethnic references in LM3157: the dappled style, rich in African suggestions, comes through in the frame’s acetates and is highlighted by the brilliant colours recurring in the sidepiece details, as if in tribal-patterned fabrics.
Finally, we can find LA MATTA’s pure spirit in model LM3151: the oval front in metal, shaped slightly like a cat’s eye, is lined with chromatic contrasts, which are echoed in sidepieces embellished with nuggets of metal mounted in luminous rims at the same depth as the hinge, a refined detail of pure femininity.
