On the occasion of World Sight Day on October 10, ACUVUE® Brand Contact Lenses, in association with their partners Dubai Optical, provided a general free vision test and contact lens fitting to the Road and Transport Authority (RTA) customers in Dubai.
The vision test, conducted at RTA’s customer services department, included free eye tests and contact lens fittings, along with an educational session on the importance of a regular vision test and tips on how to handle and care for your contact lenses.
“Activities such as providing a free vision test consultation are extremely important to spread awareness about vision correction, especially in today’s environment where people spend long hours in front of the computers. One of the main reasons people don’t get their eyes checked is a lack of time, so we wanted to provide these services to them,” said Dr. Hisham Maswadeh, a leading optometrist with Dubai Optical.
Studies have shown that people are reluctant to address issues with their sight, with most of them waiting over 3 years to get contact lenses from the time that they realize they need vision correction. This is something that the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB) is trying to prevent through World Sight Day, which aims to focus global attention on blindness and vision impairment, and advocates prompt vision correction.
“World Sight Day provided us with a great platform to raise awareness about general eye care and the benefits of contact lenses,” Dr. Maswadeh explained, “With over half of the people in the Middle East needing some sort of vision correction, contact lenses provide several benefits such as the freedom to play sports, change your look, and even better all-round vision than glasses.”
