Carl Zeiss Vision and Rodenstock have entered into a cross-license agreement for patents covering certain ophthalmic lens technologies, including Carl Zeiss Vision’s back-surface freeform progressive lens technology.
This agreement will allow Carl Zeiss Vision and Rodenstock to accelerate the delivery of advanced ophthalmic lens products and related technology to markets throughout the world.
Rodenstock is Germany’s leading manufacturer of ophthalmic lenses and spectacles frames. The company, which was founded in 1877, is based in Munich and has a worldwide workforce of approximately 4,100 and is represented in more than 80 countries with sales subsidiaries and distribution partners. Rodenstock maintains production sites at 14 locations in 12 countries.
The Vision Care business group of Carl Zeiss is the only manufacturer to combine ophthalmic expertise and solutions with an international brand. The business group develops and produces technologically excellent instruments and offerings for the entire eyeglass value chain. With around 9,500 employees, the business group is one of the world’s leading providers of eyeglass lenses and generated revenue totaling 860 million euros in fiscal year 2011/12.
