Unique lens composition blocks harmful blue light and UVA/UVB radiation
The VSP Optics Group will launch UNITY BluTech lenses this week at Vision Expo East. Infused with natural melanin and ocular lens pigments, UNITY BluTech lenses protect the eyes from harmful, high-energy blue light.
Blue light, the most harmful light that penetrates all the way to the back of the eye, is radiated by fluorescent and CFL light bulbs and the screens of computers, tablets, smartphones and televisions. UNITY BluTech lenses are exceptional products that not only address the growing risk of macular degeneration, but also maximize patient satisfaction through uncompromised optics.
“With an increasing number of blue light sources in our daily lives and an aging baby boomer population, preventing exposure has become a priority to help reduce the risk of eye conditions like macular degeneration,” said Todd Riley, director of business development for VSP Optics Group. “Offering BluTech technology within our UNITY portfolio allows us to provide this protection while avoiding the deep amber tints and subsequent color distortions from earlier blue light blocking lenses.”
BluTech is a technology developed by Eye Solutions Technologies and is available in both indoor and outdoor lenses for most of the UNITY digital single vision and progressive lenses. The indoor lenses feature a slight tint and the outdoor lenses are polarized with 80 percent light absorption.
Both lenses filter out harmful, high-energy blue light and UVA/UVB radiation while allowing innocuous light to pass though. By letting low-energy light through the lens, color and depth perception are unaffected. Additionally, they provide improved visual performance through enhanced contrast and visual acuity, reduced glare and improved night vision. The lenses are also impact resistant.
UNITY BluTech lenses will be available for all eyecare professionals to order starting March 27, 2013. More product information will be available at www.vspopticsgroup.com.
