Three day fair witnessed an increased participation compared to the 2015 edition
The 15th Daegu International Optical Show (DIOPS 2016), hosted by Daegu Metropolitan City and organised by Korea Optical Industry Agency (KOIA) was held from April 21st to 23rd for three days. The spectacular exhibition witnessed an overwhelming response in terms of participation from leading brands.
The event was quite a success with foreign buyers from 65 countries participating. On the first day itself, DIOPS 2016 witnessed the presence of 10,877 visitors. The total number of buyers to have participated in the exhibition crossed over 35,000 which is the highest recorded footfall till date.
DIOPS 2016 emerged as a global networking show by collaborating with many buyers from America, France, Italy and Germany. The platform also proved to be helpful in displaying as well as highlighting top quality designs and technology of the Korean eyewear.
Francesco Gili (C.O.O of MIDO) visited DIOPS for the first time and had meetings with the Vice Mayor of Daegu Metropolitan city. Such meetings are expected to strengthen the business relationship that Korea shares with the other regions.
Global companies visit DIOPS every year not only to purchase products, but also to utilise its excellence in manufacturing eyewear in Korea.
Furthermore, as demands of Chinese buyers for Korean brands is skyrocketing, an increased number of them are visiting DIOPS, especially when compared to last year. GINKO GROUP, one of the biggest buyers in Asia visited in DIOPS; they also discussed the possibility of purchasing daily disposable contact lenses and colour contact lenses identifying potentials in the market. Domestic buyers voluntarily participated in the exhibition which increased the actual business talk and registered an increase in local participation when compared to the previous editions.
KOIA has furthered its efforts in attracting citizens to visit DIOPS through various events such as Global Optometry Conference (GOC), Korea Eyewear Design competition and free eye-sight test.
Commenting on the success of the event, DIOPS Secretariat said, “Upon this year’s success in DIOPS, we will put much more efforts to develop Daegu as a representative optical industry to the best.”
Next edition of DIOPS will be held from April 20 to April 22, in 2017 in Daegu, Korea.
