Masterclass Knowledge Fest 2016: Empowering optometrists

The two day fest emerged as an excellent learning and networking platform for optometrists in the region

Masterclass Knowledge Fest was hosted at Le Meridian Hotel, Pune from 14th to 16th August, 2016. The agenda for the fest focused upon the core specialty areas of optometry, latest concerns and areas of interest in the field. The fest was accompanied by extensive workshops on various clinical skills conducted by experts in the field. Additionally, this year’s event was accredited by Optometry Council of India (OCI) for 17 credits.

Over 250 practitioners attended the conference. The three day event started with an inauguration ceremony where Dr Padmaja Sankaridurg, Prema Chande and Ajay Mishra lit the lamp as part of the celebrations.

The conference was marked by extensive workshops with experts addressing various important and relevant themes. Experts who shared their insight through sessions at the conference included Pradnya Gogate, Yeshwant Saoji, Aditya Goyal, Ajay Mishra, Rishikesh Bapat and Monica Chaudhry, who talked at length about subjects like convincing patients, vision therapy, new dispensing methods, and handling of scleral contact lenses, respectively.

Senior optometrists in their respective domains were panelists for this session. They shared their experiences and answered various questions thus clearing doubts of the audience.

The third day of the conference focused on contact lenses and related subjects. Dr Rajeswari Mahadevan shared her experience with prescribing multifocal contact lenses while Dr Padmaja Sankaridurg suggested myopia control by means of contact lenses and drugs, and Prithie Singh Rekhi elaborated on the importance of giving options to customers. Other subjects that the experts dealt with included neuro-optometric rehabilitation, ocular photography in private practice, identifying glaucoma, and a lot more to help participants enhance their knowledge.

The three day event also included a gala entertainment night for the participants on the second day. The theme for the gala night was ‘unity in diversity’ which coincided with the occasion of Independence Day.
