SOP Hosts Appreciation Dinner: 'Votre Couleur'

The Society of Opticianry Practitioners (SOP) organised an informal get-together for members as a token of their help and support to the association, as well as to the field of optometry

SOP-groupCalled ‘Votre Couleur’, the event was a fun-filled and colourful affair held on 13th April, 2014 at the York Hotel, Singapore. The event was attended by Dr Lim Wee Kiak – Member of Parliment for Nee Soon GRC and Advisor to SOP, Mr Kevin Siew – President of International Opticians Association and Dr Koh Liang Hwee – President of Singapore Optometric Association, along with 70 other optician members.

The guests had an entertaining evening, as they indulged in live caricatures, instant photo-print booths and were also treated to an exciting performances by hip hop dancers and an illusionist. As a gesture of SOP’s appreciation to its optician members, the association had allocated several giveaways to lucky winners, including LED TVs, microwave ovens and much more, while the grand prize for the lucky draw included an iPad mini and a Samsung Galaxy Note 3.

Mr Simon Lam from Parkway College stressed on the importance of optometry education, and also provided information about the Diploma in Optometry – a part time course for practitioners and its benefits to the industry. Dr Lim wee Kiak spoke about the development and growth of opticians in Singapore, and requested everyone to come forward and participate in the progress. “I am happy with the response I’ve seen, and appreciate the efforts taken by the Society of Opticianry Practitioners. They have provided us with a great platform, and we must ensure that we utilise it to our benefit completely,” he added.

Speaking about the event, Mr Simon Ng – President of SOP, said “Society of Opticianry Practitioners exists for the benefit of opticians and to create an upgrading pathway for their growth. We are happy with the response we have seen so far, and are hopeful it will continue to grow further.”

The VIPs and guests together raised a toast to the previous year’s achievements, while hoping for another successful year for SOP and its members. The guests also enjoyed a sumptuous dinner spread along with cocktails, while a lucky few walked away with prizes.
