IVI Provided Vision Care In Mangalore

India Vision Institute has completed a major community vision screening and campaign for children in Dakshina Kannada district of Karnataka

Some 1,000 community members were vision screened, with 582 people identified as having refractive errors provided corrective glasses. Another 165 were referred for further medical examinations. Some 4,100 school children were screened, 156 were detected with refractive errors and 124 were referred for further medical examinations. Twenty-nine pairs of glasses were disbursed to the children on the spot, and 127 corrective glasses are being dispatched to the beneficiaries.

The programs, supported by the JSW Foundation, were organised in areas around Mangalore. IVI’s CEO Vinod Daniel said, “We thank JSW Foundation for the support that has enabled us to reach out to a large number of community members, including prison inmates, men and women, and school children.” “For children, this would mean better grades in school and prospects for a bright future. Clearer vision improves work productivity in adults and protects them from unnecessary accidents and falls,” he noted.

“JSW Foundation is happy to have collaborated with IVI in vision screening school children and communities in Dakshina Kannada. The program has been able to provide services to a large number of beneficiaries,” said Anil Dadhich, Head, of CSR, JSW Foundation. Community screenings included a campaign for prison inmates at District Jail, Mangalore. Corrective glasses for those found to have vision issues are being provided. Present at a special event were senior police and prison officers, as well as optometrists from IVI.

Those present at the campaign event in the prison were Mr. Manoj Kumar Nayak, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Mangalore, and Mr. Dinesh Kumar, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Shrimati. Shobha B.J, Senior Chief Judicial Magistrate Court Judge, Mr. B.T. Obleshappa, Superintendent of District Prison, Mangalore, Mr. Magesh, Associate Vice President, JSW Mangalore, Mr. Bharath Nayak, Assistant Commandant, and Mr Subhah HN, Inspector, Karnataka State Industrial Security Force, Ms Saranyalakshmi K, Program Manager, and India Vision Institue.
