10th Convocation Ceremony Of The Lotus College Of Optometry

The Lotus College of Optometry, Mumbai celebrated its Xth Convocation ceremony on December 2, 2013.

DSC_5488The solemn ceremony began by invoking the blessings of Lord Ganesha. The Chief guest was, Dr.Nerges Mistry, Director and Trustee for Foundation for Medical Research, Mumbai. The dignitaries present included Mr. Navin Shah, Chairman Lotus Hospital Trust, Mrs. Anahita Dastur, Chairperson, Mr. Pancham Kulkarni, Registrar and Mrs. Prema Chande, Principal of Lotus College of Optometry.

After lighting the ceremonial lamp, Mrs. Anahita Dastur, delivered the welcome address. She gave a brief overview of the activities conducted by the college over the year and highlighted the achievements in the last academic year giving details about developing human resources to serve eye care needs for India , developing specialized eye care clinics, about research and contribution to public health services.

The welcome address was followed by the felicitation of Dr. Nerges Mistry who then delivered the convocation address. She is a well-known researcher and academician in the area of public health and used her experience of motivating ASHA workers to inspire the young graduates.

DSC_5366The convocation ceremony then began with Optometry Oath taken by the young graduates. Awards and certificates were then distributed to the young optometrists. Ms. Kshama Shah received several awards and also the best out going student for the year 2013.

The Dr.Kankaria scholarship of Rs.25,000/- was given two students Kshama Shah and Khushboo for their all rounded performance during the four academic years.

Lotus College graduated 17 bachelors and7 post graduates in the year 2013. Mr.Fakhruddin Barodawala was awarded as the best out going student for the Master’s batch for the year 2013.

The convocation ceremony concluded with vote of thanks by Ms.Hiral Korani. The ceremony was a well-attended function by several dignitaries from the ophthalmic and optometric fraternities, graduating students and parents.
